New Cigarette Packages, Maybe it is Time to Quit Smoking
The FDA announced Wednesday that it will require new cigarette packaging requirements. The change is quite drastic. Pictures depicting the most horrific negative side affects from cigarette smoking will be on every package. Throat cancer, lung cancer, rotting teeth along with even more gruesome pictures will adorn the new packages. Maybe it is time to simply quit smoking. At least that is the message consumers seem to be receiving from the FDA.
The Food and Drug Agency set a deadline of June 22, 2011 for tobacco companies to institute the new packaging. There are 36 possible graphic images of the negative impact smoking has on a person’s health. The change in packaging is in response to similar efforts utilized by other countries like Canada and Australia and Britain. .
Almost 4,000 youths try cigarettes for the first time every day. The question is, whether or not the young person understands the consequences of starting. For, over 1,000 of these new smokers become regular, daily smokers. Smoking is not only unhealthy, now the message that it is ugly will also be evident.
